What is Social Capital? What Does It Show Us?
I think that social capital, or social capital as it is also called, should be among the topics that should be talked about and thought about the most today. As is customary, I would like to start by explaining the concept.
Social capital is a concept that refers to the advantages or disadvantages created by the social relations in which people are born, raised, and subsequently involved. When we think of social capital, we can visualize social relations in our minds. The most basic point it feeds on is individual relationships.
What Happens When Social Capital is Managed Well?
As I mentioned above, social capital can have advantages as well as disadvantages, but let us focus on the advantages at this point. In social capital, we encounter the concept of trust as an antecedent feeling. Being honest with others in social relationships will contribute to you both ethically and pragmatically. Being called honest in your social circle will bring you to the top in your daily life or business life. Although it seems very simple when you look at it, it may take years to earn it, but its effect is just as powerful.
The set of relationships we call networks is the result of well-managed social capital. At this point, the importance of accumulating good people and keeping relationships alive comes to the fore once again. At some point, this situation determines the limits of what you can do. A new person entering your life can open new doors, guide you and generate positive benefits to an extent you never expected.
Let’s look at the road map that can be drawn…
The concept of time is a bit misleading. We may find it difficult to understand how quickly it is consumed in the daily rush of life. When we look at it objectively and from a broader projection, we see the quality time that can be allocated to building social capital. Your childhood, your school years, your youth, your mature years… When we think about all of them, you will see that life brings us many people.
Your approach to the relationships you will establish and maintain with people will reveal the size of your social capital at this point. Based on my life experience, I can easily say the following two things. Never hesitate to establish and maintain relationships with people and always be honest with them. When you do these things, you can produce benefits for yourself and society.
